Catapulting forward as a modern city, Redmond retains a flavor of its past as a rural farming community. There's still a feed store on one of the main streets! There are working farms and livestock on acreage here, along with lots of new construction on standard lots, estate-sized lots, and new condominium projects as well. Geographically, Redmond is huge, running halfway down the plateau east of Lake Sammamish, and claiming some of the west side of the Lake, as well. There are lakefront properties, and lake view properties, as well as views of the Cascades in some areas. Some of Redmond's neighborhoods are Education Hill, Union Hill, Novelty Hill, Sahalee (a gated golf course community), and Villages on the Plateau.
Called the "Bicycle Capital of the Northwest", Redmond hosts major racing events at the Marymoor Park velodrome. Another popular attraction there is the 45-foot practice climbing rock. Each July 4th weekend features the Heritage Fair, highlighting craft, culture, food, music and dancing of early America and other populations who have enriched our melting-pot society here. It's great fun! There are blacksmiths forging, covered wagon rides, Native American woodcarvers, lace-making demonstrations, a Hmong home to walk through, demonstrations with oxen and draft horses. Fascinating stuff, no matter what your age!
